Designing Accessible Web Pages

Accessibility Suggestions

  1. Maintain a simple, consistent page layout and navigational structure throughout your site.
  2. Keep backgrounds simple. Make sure there is enough contrast by using easy to read fonts in dark shades of blue, purple, or black.
  3. Use the clearest and simplest language appropriate for a site's content.
  4. Provide an alternative text-only version for your web site.
  5. Provide a text equivalent for every nontext element such as graphics and images.
  6. Do not create pages that flicker.
  7. Use frames and tables sparingly.
  8. Do not rely on color alone. Ensure that all information conveyed with color is also available without color.
  9. Provide an HTML version of any document that is available in PDF.
  10. Create meaningful links.
