About the Writing Labs

At PJC's Writing Labs, help is available for writers of academic essays, research papers, outlines, summaries, and other writing assignments for any subject. Writing Lab consultants are degreed professionals with experience in classroom teaching. All services are free of charge to currently enrolled PJC students. Walk-ins are welcome. No appointment is necessary.

Students can receive assistance with any stage of the writing process: prewriting, drafting, or revising. We review rough drafts of papers but do not proofread, edit, or revise student papers. We advise students about ways to improve specific assignments by answering questions, making suggestions for improvement, or recommending useful resources. We also help students learn the skills necessary for improving writing in general.

If you plan to come to the Writing Lab for help, keep in mind the following so that your session will be as productive as possible:

• It is best to come to the Writing Lab at least a few days before your paper is due. If you come in the day an assignment is due or an hour before it is due, you limit the kind of assistance we can offer. We want to help you as much as we can, but we cannot work miracles.
• You should come prepared: Know the title of your course, your instructor's name, and the details of the assignment. Bring your textbook, any notes or drafts you have written, and specific questions for the writing consultant.
• Please remember that this is not a proofreading service--we will not correct or revise writing but will make suggestions and offer advice. You must make your own decisions as to what changes you will make to your assignment.
